In 2010, men accounted for 50.1% of total pension plan membership, while the percentage of women rose to 49.9%, a record level. In the early 1970s, men accounted for almost 75% of total membership in pension plans.
"I am relieved, humbled, and delighted at this decision," Donna Jodhan, the woman behind the initial legal challenge told the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). "This is a victory for all Blind Canadians and this moment belongs to all of us.

New legislation in Manitoba prescribes more accountability and transparency before starting P3 projects.
Winnipeg (01 June 2012) - While many governments across the country seem determined to introduce public private partnerships (P3s), the Manitoba government is the only one addressing major acountability and transparency concerns through actual legislation, says the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).
Closing Thistletown is like closing Sick Kids’ Hospital and sending patients to community clinics.
On June 4, NUPGE is joining with faith groups, trade unions, associations, businesses, First Nations, environment groups, human rights groups, pro democracy groups and seniors, across the country, to say: Silence is Not an Option.

Vancouver (31 May 2012) - Over 100 activists from all sectors of the labour movement rallied in Kelowna on May 25 in support of the 130 workers from Spring Valley Care Centre who have all been given lay off notices.
