Timmins (17 Feb. 2016) — Child treatment professionals at Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre (CTCTC) have voted to make the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) their bargaining agent.
OPSEU/NUPGE will now be certified to represent professionals at CTCTC who include physiotherapists, occupational therapist assistants, and social workers, as well as administrative staff.
No more important work than helping children in need
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas welcomed the union’s newest members, who will join the 2,300 already working in OPSEU’s Child Treatment sector. “There is no more important work than helping children in need,” Thomas said. “With our union’s help, these professionals will be able to continue this work with more peace of mind.”
“We all share a common commitment of working with children and their families who are experiencing some form of distress in their lives,” said Deb Gordon, Chair of OPSEU’s Child Treatment sector. “We look forward to sharing resources and expertise with these new members as we continue to meet the needs of the people we serve.”
Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre provides services and programs for communities across northwestern Ontario
Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre offers a variety of services and programs to children with physical, motor and perceptual-based difficulties. The CTCTC services the Districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming as well as Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake, New Liskeard, Hearst, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Moosonee, Moose Factory and Timmins.
