Ottawa (15 Aug. 2017) — Amazing entries keep coming in for the Why Unions Matter contest sponsored by the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).
NUPGE developed the contest to celebrate the countless ways in which unions help make life better for everyone. To demonstrate how this happens, NUPGE has been inviting all Canadians to share with us, in their own personal way, why unions matter.
Over the last 4 years, we’ve received poems, stories, drawings, photos, videos, and songs that show how unions matter to people personally and to society as a whole. And we're always looking for more.
Judges consider entries every month and award a $1,000 prize to the favourites.
So far, in 2017, we've awarded prizes to
- Edmonton's Sarah Chernik for her poem, Why unions matter to decent wages
- Edmonton's Dominic Clouthier for his poem, Why Unions Matter
- Twillingate's Gabrielle Broderick for her personal story, Why Unions Matter
- Portage La Prairie's Catherine Gibbs for her colouring book, Solidarity Forever
