Ratification of tentative agreement will take place on April 2.
Winnipeg (17 Mar. 2014) — Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' UNion (MGEU/NUPGE) who are employed as professors at the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) voted on March 7 in favour of taking strike action.
Tentative settlement reached to avoid strike
After almost two years at the bargaining table, USB professors felt that the employer wasn’t doing enough to close the wage gap between them and professors working at other Manitoba universities. This situation continued to undermine the ability to effectively recruit new teaching staff.
Last week, the MGEU bargaining committee met several times with USB representatives in an effort to reach an agreement and avert a strike scheduled to begin Monday, March 17.
On March 14, the two sides reached a four-year tentative agreement and kept USB professors off the picket line.
Members will get to vote on the tentative agreement on April 2. When further information is available, it will be sent to the affected members.
