NSGEU/NUPGE working with employer to address air quality conditions.
Halifax (06 Nov. 2017) — The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees' Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) is advising its members working in the Addictions Services office in Port Hawkesbury that the employer has informed the union that it is taking steps to address the recent concern over air quality in the building.
While the office remains open for service, the employer has received 3 safety incident reports citing the poor air quality.
The Safety Consultant for the area is involved and is working with the local manager and NSGEU's OH&S Officer. They have engaged an external consultant who has conducted air quality testing in the office space and will report their findings in the coming days. The NSGEU/NUPGE will be informed of the results as well as any next steps.
Any member feeling ill or who has concerns about air quality should contact their immediate supervisor and follow the employer's reporting process. NSGEU/NUPGE members can also contact Kelly MacRitchie, occupational hygienist or Laura Wilkie, occupational health nurse.
