“There is a lot of work ahead and the employer should understand that the membership is determined to see them live up to this agreement and the process it outlines.” - Joan Jessome, NSGEU President.
Halifax (14 Aug. 2012) - Members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), employed by Northwood Homecare, have voted in favour of the tentative agreement.
The members were in a strike position as of Aug. 13. The two sides negotiated throughout the weekend to reach a deal.
“We are pleased that the members have a new collective agreement with a memorandum of understanding that begins the process of eliminating the mandatory two hour unpaid availability requirement,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President. “There is a lot of work ahead and the employer should understand that the membership is determined to see them live up to this agreement and the process it outlines.”
The tentative agreement including the new Memorandum of Agreement will be available on the union's website at www.nsgeu.ca.
The current contract expired March 31, 2010 and the parties have been in negotiations since November 2011.
This contract affects over 400 members who provide home care services through Northwood Homecare.
