Halifax (12 Feb. 2013) – Members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), who work as support staff at Saint Mary’s University, have entered into their first day of conciliation with the employer with an 85 per cent in favour of a strike to back up their bargaining demands.
“The members have given their bargaining committee a strong mandate as they enter the conciliation process with the employer,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President. “These women and men provide valuable support services at the university and deserve to be treated fairly at the bargaining table.”
The last offer from the employer included a one per cent increase in wages in each year of a three year contract.
The members had one day of conciliation scheduled for February 11.
There are 178 members in the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical, and library services for Saint Mary’s University.
