Burnaby (29 May 2017) -- BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) members working at Douglas Care Community in Victoria may soon find themselves behind the picket line.
Following an impasse in negotiations for modest improvements to wages and benefits, the union called a strike vote for May 25.
“An agreement has been made with the employer on all non-monetary proposals; however, their response to the union’s monetary proposals were completely unacceptable,” says Stephanie Smith, BCGEU President. “These hard-working members are seeking reasonable improvements and deserve a fair deal.”
Douglas Care Community is a private, for-profit residential care home in the James Bay neighbourhood in Victoria. The BCGEU/NUPGE represents 30 members at the care home, including licensed practical nurses, registered care aides, food service and dietary workers, and housekeepers.
