Ottawa (1 May 2015) —The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada (CCAAC) has launched a campaign entitled Vote Child Care 2015. The Vote Child Care 2015 campaign brings together child care advocates and supporters from across Canada to promote the vision that was endorsed at the ChildCare2020 conference in 2014. This child care vision is based on universal entitlement, high quality and comprehensiveness.
The campaign will use the upcoming federal election to build support for affordable quality child care and to make child care a prominent issue in communities across Canada. The campaign is also exposing the danger of the market-based approach to family policy, which includes the new income splitting (joint taxation policy) and the enhanced Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB).
Week of Action May 10—17, 2015
The campaign is starting with a Canada-wide week of action for child care from May 10 to May 17, 2015. The campaign asks provincial, territorial, Indigenous and local groups to work together to organize events to draw public attention to child care. The events can include town halls, door-to-door canvassing, rallies for child care stroller brigades, toddler takeover of a MP office and more. The CCAAC will report on events on their website.
Materials for the week of action are available on the CCAAC website and include a tool kit, hand out, sign-up sheets and an event flyer template.
