Solidarity with Community Living Greater Sudbury

Moving stories about the reality of being a developmental services worker and what these contract talks are about.

Sudbury (28 Feb. 2013) — More than 230 members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) at Community Living of Greater Sudbury (CLGS) are in negotiations for a new collective agreement.

A majority of these workers are female and part-time. There is no pension plan, 80 per cent are without benefits and there has been no acceptable wage increase since 2008.

Management at CLGS has demonstrated little willingness to bargain a fair and just contract and expect staff to wait another two years before considering a wage hike. That would amount to a 15-cent an hour wage increase over six years, which the employees are not willing to accept.
