St. John (09 Aug. 2013) - The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees (NBUPPE/NUPGE) is saddened by the news that Simms Paintbrush Manufacturing will be closing effective February 2014. The closure will result in the dissolution of NBUPPE/NUPGE Local 701 which consists of 32 members who work for the company.
Many employees have over 25 years of service
Simms Paintbrush Manufacturing, which produces a variety of paint brushes and rollers, is a family owned and operated company which has been in existence for 140 years. NBUPPE/NUPGE members employed at the company are highly skilled tradesmen, production equipment mechanics, material handlers, stock clerks, paint brush production operators and machine operators.
Many of the employees have more than 25 years of service. The union executive and its members have always had a positive working relationship with the employer, keeping a level of mutual understanding and respect for one another.
NBUPPE/NUPGE will work with Local as they go through next steps
"NB Union understands this will be a difficult few months for the employees involved," states Susie Proulx-Daigle, President of NBUPPE/NUPGE. "We will be working diligently with the executive of the Local and union members as they go through the next steps."
