Ottawa (01 June 2015) — The Canadian Network of Women's Shelters and Transition Houses will be launching a new online resource intended to help women seeking safety from violence.
The website, Sheltersafe.ca, will help women to find local shelters in communities and include an interactive map to identify 24-hour telephone numbers to access services. The Network notes that women do not have to be a shelter resident to access shelter services.
Women experiencing abuse are more at-risk when preparing to leave
This new resource wil provide women with the support they need to get to a safer location as quickly as possible. The Network says that "Women who experience abuse are most at-risk of extreme violence when they are preparing to leave an abusive relationship."
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has supported the Network's initiatives for many years.
