SGEU leader wins ISC award

The Inspire Award recognizes those who are leaders in the workplace, who act as role models and inspire others to be their very best.

Regina (17 Jan. 2013) — Congratulations to Monica Hood on winning the 2012 Making a Difference - Inspire Award from Information Services Corporation (ISC). Monica is the chair of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE) negotiating committee at ISC.

"Monica is the 'go-to' person in our workplace. She's always willing to listen to people and to step up and help make things happen," says co-worker Wendy Hillier.

The Inspire Award recognizes those who are leaders in the workplace, who act as role models and inspire others to be their very best.

Co-workers who nominated Monica had this to say about why she deserved the award: "Monica is a true leader. She creates relationships and trust with every employee. She is fair and honest, truthful and sincere. Monica brings a sense of belonging and family to work."

"Everyone - co-workers and managers - respect Monica," adds Hillier. "Everyone appreciates that she is so open and honest. There's no second guessing with her."

Monica has worked at ISC since its inception in 2001. She transferred to the new crown corporation along with Land Titles, then part of the Department of Justice, where she had worked since 1987. She has been active in SGEU/NUPGE since 1990, serving as a steward, chief steward, negotiating committee member, and finally, negotiating committee chair.
