Contract talks completed for health care providers in Saskatchewan.
Regina (28 Feb. 2014) — Health care provider members of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union (SGEU/NUPGE) ratified a new collective agreement this month that provides improvements in many areas.
Drawn out contract negotiations resolved with improvements to health care providers
The new collective agreement, negotiated between three unions - SGEU/NUPGE, Service Employees International Union (SEIU-West) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) - and the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) provides for a wage increase of 8.5 per cent over the five year term, with additional premium improvements. All workers who were employed at the time of the ratification vote will be eligible for retroactive wages since the contract had expired in 2012.
SGEU/NUPGE achieved improvements to language in the collective agreement, new articles, along with enhancements to shift differential, weekend differential, standby, monthly car allowance, and professional fees.
Once the new collective agreement is printed the union will have copies available for members in the facilities.
The union will need to address the partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health, SAHO and the employers. No date has been set for these discussions. SGEU/NUPGE continues to be in discussions on the 3s Health Visioning Sessions. The union's priorities in this process are to ensure members' rights are recognized and adhered to.
