'A safe environment for participants to learn how to challenge barriers to diversity within the union and the workplace.'
Regina (5 Feb. 2010) - The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE) will hold a four-day course April 27-30 for members who want to explore Aboriginal peoples’ culture and traditions as well as contemporary issues and struggles facing Aboriginal peoples.
The union says in a release posted on its website that the course will provide a safe environment for participants to learn how to challenge barriers to diversity within the union and the workplace.
Sessions include:
- Historical timelines.
- Employment issues.
- The legal basis for Aboriginal rights.
- Explaining Aboriginal rights to union members.
- Common visions and causes between Aboriginal and union struggles.
- Building links between Aboriginal and labour communities.
- Candid conversations with an elder.
The deadline for applications to be received is March 19. SGEU says enrollment is limited and all those interested are urged to apply early. Information is available at the link below.
