"Every employee in this province has the right to know more about where this is coming from and what might be in store for us," Bymoen adds.
Regina (15 May 2012) - The public should have access to any labour legislation the government has already drafted in advance of the consultation now underway, according to the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE).
"People need to have a better understanding of where the government is heading with its review of labour laws. The consultation paper is so wide-ranging, and hints, but does not openly propose, so many potentially damaging changes, that we all need more information to respond effectively," says SGEU President Bob Bymoen.
SGEU/NUPGE is formally requesting the government disclose draft labour legislation that Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Don Morgan acknowledged has already been drafted. A letter was sent today to the Minister requesting a copy of the legislation as well as other pertinent information.
"Government has a duty to consult meaningfully with working people and the organizations that represent them. Government appears to be moving toward dismantling more than a century of protections and rights for Saskatchewan wage earners. Every employee in this province has the right to know more about where this is coming from and what might be in store for us," Bymoen adds.
