Scholarship deadline extended until August 4, 2017

Ottawa (06 July, 2017) — The deadline to apply for the 5 scholarships offered by the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has been extended until Friday August 4, 2017.

NUPGE scholarships are open to the children, grandchildren or foster children of the National Union’s 370,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education. Information on the amount of assistance provided, how to apply, and eligibility is below. People have until the end of the day on Friday August 4, 2017 to apply.

Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship

  • For $1,500
  • Open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2017 - 2018 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a NUPGE member
  • Awarded for the best 750 — 1,000 word essay on: The importance of their field of study in either policing, criminal justice services or health care in delivering public services to Canadians.

 

Tommy Douglas Scholarship

  • For $1,500
  • Open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2017 — 2018 and who are the children, grandchildren, or foster children of a member of NUPGE
  • Awarded for the best 750 — 1,000 word essay on: how Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society.

 

Terry Fox Scholarship

  • For $1,500
  • Open to all students with disabilities who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2017 — 2018 and who are the children, grandchildren, or foster children of a member of NUPGE
  • Aarded for the best 750 — 1,000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities.

 

Scholarship for Indigenous Students (formerly named Aboriginal Canadians)

  • For $1,500
  • Open to all Indigenous students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2017 — 2018 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a member of NUPGE
  • Awarded for the best 750 — 1,000 word essay on: the importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of Indigenous students.

 

Scholarship for Visible Minorities

  • For $1,500
  • Open to all visible minority students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education full-time in 2017 — 2018 and who are the children, grandchildren, or foster children of a member of NUPGE
  • Awarded for the best 750 — 1,000 word essay on: the importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of visible minorities.
