Regina (11 Nov. 2009) - The province of Saskatchewan has become the second in Canada to formally recognize Community Social Service (CSS) Workers Appreciation Day.
The occasion was observed by dozens of communities across Canada on Nov. 6 and also by the province of Manitoba - which became the first province to officially recognize the day.

The Saskatchewan Party government acknowledged in a statement that CSS workers make a "tremendous" contribution to hundreds of community-based organizations (CBOs) across the province.
"CBOs are an integral part of the province's human-service delivery system, and the ongoing efforts of CBO staff to help marginalized and at-risk Saskatchewan people," says Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said.
"I hope the proclamation of this special day will help raise awareness about the important role of CBOs and their staff in Saskatchewan. These workers deserve our utmost respect and recognition."
Hundreds of emergency shelters, group homes, day cares, crisis units and many other much-needed programs and services are staffed by CBO workers, who provide hope, dignity and compassion to some of the most vulnerable citizens in our province, the minister said.
