Orillia (13 Jan. 2016) — The Ontario Public Services Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) is proud to welcome more than 65 allied health professionals who work in rehabilitation at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia.
More health professionals join OPSEU/NUPGE
The professional front-line staff provide a variety of rehabilitation services, which include mental health assessments, counseling and treatment. The new members are occupational therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapy and physical therapy assistants, social workers, speech language pathologists and communicative disorder assistants.
Effective January 5, 2016, the new members joined a unit of all technical allied health professionals as well as office and clerical staff. OPSEU/NUPGE now represents more than 340 members at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
Sara Labelle, Chair of OPSEU’s Hospital Professionals Division (HPD), extended warm greetings to the new members. "The rehabilitation staff at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital make a great addition to our ever-growing Hospital Professionals Division,” Labelle said.
OPSEU/NUPGE is health professionals choice for representation
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas welcomed the new members. “Now, more than ever, workers need a union, especially in health care. For Ontario’s health care professionals, OPSEU is really the only choice,” Thomas said.
OPSEU/NUPGE has been representing health care professionals since the early 1970s and has grown from several hundred to almost 25,000 professionals. OPSEU’s HPD executive is made up of health care professionals who advocate on behalf of allied health professionals across Ontario.
