Rally in support of Homes First workers contract talks

Homes First management is asking for major concessions in contract talks. Show your support for the workers who provide housing and support services for those in need.

Toronto (12 Dec. 2012) - Toronto supportive housing workers at Homes First are in mediation and currently without a contract. After talks broke off the employer hired security guards and low-paid replacement workers in an act of intimidation.

Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) face a wall of 88 concessions:
• eliminate top-up pay for pregnancy / parental leave and EI;
• an increase in the hours of work without compensation (amounting to a 6.5 per cent pay cut);
• a rollback of vacation leave to 1995 levels; and
• a cut in sick leave time by more than 50 per cent.

Members and supporters will be rallying at 90 Shuter St. (at Jarvis St.), in front of Homes First, on December 13 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to show support for the workers who provide stable housing and support services for those with few housing options throughout the city.

Supporters can also voice concerns about Homes First's concessionary bargaining agenda by contacting Fran Perkins, Board chair and Patricia Mueller, executive director. Send them an email today to encourage them to put dignity back into negotiations to reach a fair settlement.
