“This agreement provides a solid foundation for local bargaining committees to negotiate a fair and reasonable agreement.” - Darryl Walker, BCGEU President.
Vancouver (06 Dec. 2012) - A marathon session of collective bargaining over the weekend, concluded late Sunday evening with a tentative agreement between the College and Institute Support Staff Bargaining Association (CISSBA), and the Post-Secondary Employers Association (PSEA). The multi-union template table, including the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and the Canadian Office and Professional Employees (COPE) successfully negotiated a single template settlement agreement that dealt with all the monetary issues, including: length of agreement, wage increases, health & welfare benefits.
“This round of negotiations has been challenging, but after taking targeted strike action, our bargaining team was able to make real gains for our members,” says BCGEU President Darryl Walker. “This agreement provides a solid foundation for local bargaining committees to negotiate a fair and reasonable agreement.”
Highlights of the tentative agreement include wage increases of four per cent over the life of the agreement as well as a joint early intervention plan.
With the provincial template agreement in place bargaining will now shift to the local tables to resolve any outstanding local issues. When each local table concludes a tentative agreement ratification votes will be scheduled at each institution.
