“Their jobs are among the most difficult in the health care system, and we are proud to have them as part of our union.” - Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President.
Toronto (20 Sept. 2012) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) welcomes the newly-organized workers of Perram House. The staff participated in a vote on September 12, where the majority chose OPSEU/NUPGE as their union.
Perram House is a residential hospice providing end-of life-care in downtown Toronto. Patient-centric palliative care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of care professionals, all of whom specialize in palliative care. They provide nursing, personal support, psychosocial and spiritual care placing the resident in control of her or his life.
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas says these new members of the Community Health Care Professionals sector perform amazing work in extremely challenging circumstances. “Their jobs are among the most difficult in the health care system, and we are proud to have them as part of our union.”
