Charlottetown (17 Sept. 2015) — The PEI Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE) showed its support for the 11 workers at Canadian Blood Services who are on strike in Charlottetown.

PEIUPSE President Debbie Bovyer said, “They were very, very appreciative that PEIUPSE/NUPGE took the initiative to organize and invite all the other unions on P.E.I. to participate."
The show of support "lifted their spirits again, got them back into that drive. They are smiling again. They don't feel that they are run down so much and they are committed to going forward now that they know they have lots of support," Bovyer said.
Women fighting for stable hours
The members of the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees (NSUPE) have been on strike since September 7.
"These women are part-time employees and have been without a contract since 2011. They are asking for stable part-time hours," said Bovyer.
Dozens of members from PEIUPSE/NUPGE and other unions including the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), UNIFOR and the P.E.I. Federation of Labour joined the picket line to provide support and financial assistance for the workers.
