Cancel unnecessary corporate tax cuts to avoid public sector wage freeze and to preserve public programs, union says.
Peterborough (22 Nov. 2010) - Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) in the Peterborough area are taking their message against the province's unfair proposed wage freeze door to door to appeal to citizens for support.

Working in teams and going house to house, the members distributed 2,500 flyers in the southern and eastern areas of the city this week. Their core message is that public employees and public programs should not be made scapegoats to finance unnecessary corporate tax cuts.
They distributed flyers and answered questions about the proposed provincial public sector wage freeze and funding cuts that have already been made at the Peterborough hospital.
"The flyers call on the McGuinty government to cancel corporate tax cuts and invest in public services," OPSEU says.
"These tax cuts will drain the provincial treasury of $2.4 billion a year. Constituents are asked to contact Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough, and tell him what they would like to do with $2.4 billion."
OPSEU says $2.4 billion would go a long way toward improving public services such as health care, education, child care and public transit as well as developing green jobs and advancing other priorities.
Other OPSEU locals across Ontario are expected to undertake similar initiatives to get out the message from front-line workers to citizens.
