OPSEU presses government to "Put Kids First"

On June 1, in communities throughout Ontario, wear a sticker to Put Kids First

How much is too much Children Aid's Society stickerToronto (31 May 2011) - On June 1, members of the Children Aid Society locals represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) will ask the government to Put Kids First.  Workers and their supporters will deliver the message that vulnerable children should be considered first when it comes to meeting the requirements of child protection work.

Lunchtime events will be held in front of local agencies, in communities across the province, to highlight many of the obstacles workers face on a daily basis to "put kids first." People will be encouraged to wear stickers demonstrating their support.

Members are asking the government to commit to a sector-wide job protection, an independent workload study and to establish a committee to review and recommend policies to end all forms of workplace violence.

The provincial discussion table team has been engaged in discussions with the government, employers and other unions. The parties are set to meet next June 1 - 3.
