OPSEU educational assistants launch video message to Premier

New video profiles the work of Ontario education assistants.

Toronto (29 June 2012) - Ontario Public Service Employees Union's (OPSEU/NUPGE) education assistants from across Ontario have come together in this new video with a special message for Dalton McGuinty.

In Education Assistants Care, the vast and important role education assistants play in schools across the province is highlighted. Education assistants care deeply for the students they support. As frontline workers, education assistants have worked alongside teachers for more than 25 years and make a significant contribution to the quality of Ontario’s education system.

In early talks with the McGuinty government, Minister of Education Laurel Broten stressed that while the government is committed to discussions that are fair and reasonable, they must also consider the economic climate and fiscal responsibilities they are facing.

What education assistants want Minister Broten and the Premier to know is that proper funding is required to ensure access by all of Ontario’s students to the quality education they deserve. Students across the province depend on these workers as part of the whole education system.
