"I want to congratulate college faculty on negotiating a tentative contract that helps to protect and enshrine quality education for students." — Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President.
Toronto (02 Sept. 2014) — Faculty at Ontario’s 24 colleges reached a tentative agreement with the College Employer Council on August 29 after negotiating throughout the summer.
College faculty put quality education at the forefront of contract negotiations
Details of the agreement will be released to the members prior to the ratification vote in late September 2014.
"I want to congratulate college faculty on negotiating a tentative contract that helps to protect and enshrine quality education for students,” said Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President of the Ontairo Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE), the union which represents Ontario's college faculty members.
"This has been a productive round of negotiations, and I cannot say enough about the quality of the bargaining team and how they represent their members,” said OPSEU Negotiator, Mark Kotanen. “It was done right — with attention both to the details and the larger issues."
“College faculty first and foremost are here for the students. And we believe this tentative agreement reflects that,” said Kotanen.
OPSEU/NUPGE represents more than 12,000 full-time and partial-load faculty members at colleges across Ontario. Faculty members include counsellors, instructors, professors and librarians.
