NUPGE supports organization bringing Afghan journalists to Canada

The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is supporting Journalists for Human Rights in their efforts to evacuate journalists from Afghanistan following the rise to power of the Taliban.

Ottawa (16 Nov. 2021) — The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is supporting Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) in their work to evacuate journalists from Afghanistan. Part of the National Union's support came as a donation from the John Fryer Solidarity Fund .

In a letter to JHR, Bert Blundon, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer, said that "we share your concerns for the safety of these journalists in Afghanistan. As trade unionists, we can’t turn away from the plight of these workers."

"On behalf of the 390,000 members of NUPGE, we offer our support and commitment to help you in your efforts to evacuate and relocate these Afghan journalists."

More details about JHR's evacuation efforts can be found on their website HELP JHR EVACUATE JOURNALISTS FROM KABUL.
