NUPGE participating in pharmacare roundtables

The Advisory Council on the Implementation of National Pharmacare has invited NUPGE to participate in its discussions.

Toronto (25 Sept. 2018) — The federal government has designated an Advisory Council to make recommendations on the implementation of national pharmacare in Canada. The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has been actively campaigning for a national pharmacare program as an integral part of our public health care system.

Tell the federal government you support public pharmacare

On September 25, NUPGE will be participating in a roundtable meeting of the Advisory Council after Secretary-Treasurer, Elisabeth Ballermann, secured an invitation from the Advisory Council. These consultations will be an important opportunity for advocates to face-off against the pharmaceutical industry and private insurers who are also invited to these sessions to debate the issues.

As was highlighted last month on NUPGE's website, the National Union is actively encouraging all members and other supporters of public health care in Canada to go the Advisory Council's website and register their support for national public pharmacare.

"Pharmarecare is critical for the future of our public health care system," said Elisabeth Ballermann, NUPGE Secretary-Treasurer. "We must make pharmacare an election issue and demand our elected representatives take action; securing pharmacare in Canada is long overdue and will save lives and improve the health of Canadians."
