NUPGE mourns the passing of Dave Peters

Ottawa (24 Jan. 2019) — It is with deep sadness that members of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) mourn the death of a leader in our union, Dave Peters.

Peters was a lifelong labour activist in Nova Scotia. During that time he held a number of leadership roles in the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), in NUPGE, and in the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour. From 1994 to 1999, Peters served on the National Executive Board of NUPGE and as the President of the NSGEU/NUPGE.

Peters continued his activism after retirement

Even after retiring, Peters continued to work on behalf of working people and the community as a whole. For many years, he served on the Board of Trustees for the Public Services Superannuation Plan representing the Nova Scotia Government Retired Employees Association. His service reflected his strong belief in the importance of pensions and public services.

Peters’s belief in public services was also reflected in his work in his community where he served as Chairman of the Southwest Hants Fire Department.
