The third in a series of five NUPGE Pension Basics webinars will explore the basics of pension investment, investment risks and opportunities and the role of trustees in setting investment policies.
Ottawa (25 April 2016) — The 360,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) will deliver its third in a series of five one-hour Pension Basics webinars on Friday, April 29, 2016.
Third webinar on pensions will discuss investments
The webinar, entitled Pension Investment, will explore the basics of pension investment, investment risks and opportunities and the role of trustees in setting investment policies.
The webinar will be moderated by Diana Clarke, a Senior Benefits Officer with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE). The two presenters for the webinar will be
- Liz Thompson, OH&S, WCB and Disability Officer, Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE)
- Jordan Berger, Managing Director of Strategic Relationships and Portfolio Intelligence with OPTrust
OPTrust is the plan administrator for the OPSEU Pension Plan, a defined benefit plan with almost 87,000 OPSEU/NUPGE members and retirees, and which has net assets of $18.4 billion.

NUPGE pension webinars help members navigate the world of investments and pensions
The series of Pension Basics webinars is designed for new or potential Component pension trustees, members of Component pension committees, as well as NUPGE activists and staff who have an interest, but not a strong background, in pensions. The webinars have been developed in cooperation with Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), a union-friendly advocacy organization specializing in Canadian pensions and responsible investment.
NUPGE members who have an interest in pensions are encouraged to participate in the webinars. Participants will need to register for each webinar in advance so they receive the proper notifications. Registration must be done online at http://share.ca/NUPGE-webinars/.
NUPGE members who participate in all webinars and complete a self-assessment will receive a certificate of completion.
The first webinar, providing an overview of Canada’s retirement system, and the second webinar, on plan funding and the role of the actuary, are now posted on NUPGE’s YouTube channel.
