Students should have access to affordable education no matter where they live in Canada. But that is currently not the case!
Ottawa (27 Jan. 2012) - The Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) will hold a cross country day of action on Feb. 1 with a call for affordable quality education.
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) stands in solidarity with the CFS as students gather in protest of long standing cuts to post-secondary education that have driven tuition fees through the roof over the last decade.
The federal transfer payment to the provinces through the Canada Social Transfer (CST) helps fund public colleges and institutes among other important public services. This important block of funding will be re-negotiated in 2014 by Harper and provincial premiers.
The Day of Action is calling for renewed funding to public post-secondary education, returning to 1992 levels, and a Canada Post-Secondary Education Act that will help ensure quality, affordability and accessibility across provincial and territorial boundaries.
