Ottawa (11 May 2016) — A week after the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) announced its donation to the Red Cross to assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Fort McMurray area, the amount keeps rising.
Donations total $183,746 so far
So far, donations from NUPGE and its Components total $183,746.
"This generosity is a demonstration of the solidarity our members feel with the residents of Fort McMurray," said James Clancy, NUPGE National President.
"We can only imagine how difficult these weeks have been and how daunting the challenges ahead are," Clancy said. "We know that the public sector workers who are fighting fires and taking care of the residents are also facing their own losses."

Alberta and federal government matching donations to Red Cross
On May 4, the government of Alberta announced that it would match any donation made to the Red Cross for the wildfire emergency. On May 9, the federal government announced that it will also match donations. As of today, the Red Cross has raised $54 million in donations.
