“We are very pleased to welcome these new members at St. FX to the NSGEU/NUPGE. They will find a home here amongst our locals at other universities and colleges across the province” said NSGEU President Joan Jessome.
Halifax (December 2, 2009) – NSGEU/NUPGE welcomes in a new Local – NSGEU Local 88, made up of administrative, clerical, technical and non-professional library workers at St. FX University.
The union began organizing at St.FX University in June. There was a vote by workers at St. FX University on October 6, 2009. The vote was counted at the Nova Scotia Labour Board yesterday, December 1st. There are 151 workers in the new bargaining unit.
"We are looking forward to setting up the local, electing their bargaining committee and beginning the preparations for bargaining their first collective agreement with their employer," says Jessome.
NSGEU also represents support workers at Dalhousie University, NSCAD, Cape Breton University, St. Mary’s University, Mount St. Vincent University and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).
