“Our members are looking for some headway on two issues most important to the membership; wages and the classification process,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President.
Halifax (27 Feb. 2013) – Members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) employed at St. Francis Xavier) University as support staff have voted in favour of rejecting the employer’s last offer.
“Our members are looking for some headway on two issues most important to the membership; wages and the classification process,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President. “The majority of the members stand firmly behind their bargaining committee’s efforts to achieve an agreement that contains improvements in those areas.”
The classification issue was central to the members of Local 88 when they first unionized in December of 2009.
The union has asked the conciliator to file his report with the Department of Labour and Advanced Education on Friday which triggers the 14-day countdown to a legal strike date. This would be 12:01 a.m. on March 8.
There are approximately 135 members of the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical and library services for St. F.X.
