'The employer’s wage proposal is extremely offensive.'
Halifax (5 Aug. 2010) - Talks have broken off between the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) and St. Francis Xavier University.
The union has applied for conciliation to help resolve the dispute, which involves a series of issues including wages "and other cost items."
The union is asking for 4% annual increases in a three-year contract while the university is offering nothing for the entire three year period - or 1% annual increases if the union submits to a "job evaluation system."
"The employer’s wage proposal is extremely offensive," the union says in an update to members of the bargaining unit.
"It is unacceptable for our members to receive no wage increase and yet absorb the cost of adding another position in human resources to obtain a job evaluation plan."
Full details are available on the NSGEU website.
