Halifax (31 Jan. 2014) — After eight days at the bargaining table, the negotiating committee for registered nursing members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) at Capital District Health Authority (CDHA) have reached an impasse with the employer.
NSGEU/NUPGE applies for conciliation
The union has now applied to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education for conciliation in hopes that an agreement can be reached without resorting to strike action.
“There are some key issues on the table that have not been addressed by the employer: issues relating to scheduling and patient safety,” says NSGEU President Joan Jessome. “The employer is also suggesting some serious clawbacks in their Final Settlement Offer. What they have presented is simply unacceptable.”
There are approximately 2,600 Registered Nurses from Local 97 who work throughout the CDHA.
