Halifax (12 Aug. 2016) — Jason MacLean, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), is thanking all the union members and the others involved in the grueling fight to contain and abate the current wildfires burning in Annapolis, Cumberland, Pictou, Queens and Shelburne counties.
Extraordinary dedication demonstrated
“Many NSGEU members in the Department of Natural Resources are working extended hours in the control centres, in the bush, and in the air, and are doing their best to fight these fires safely and effectively,” says MacLean.

Unprecedented level of forest fires in province
A combination of extreme heat and lack of precipitation has contributed to creating the worst forest fire season in memory for many of the front-line wildlands firefighters.
Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources is asking members of the public to stay out of the forests and has imposed a fire ban across the province.
