NSGEU optimistic about CDHA looking ahead to fall

Progress made in initial talks with bargaining set to resume in September.

Halifax (7 July 2010) - The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) says talks on behalf of employees of the Capital District Health Authority (CDHA) have been adjourned until fall following progress on a number of items during initial bargaining sessions.

"After exchanging proposals with the employer on June 10 your bargaining committee met with the Employer on June 24, 25, 28 and 29 to begin negotiations for a new collective agreement," the union says in an update to members (NSGEU Local 42).

"The meetings were cordial and considerable progress was made on many non-monetary items. Extensive discussion is taking place at the bargaining table dealing with the language of the collective agreement. While the parties may have positions that differ considerably on certain issues, the talks at the table have been productive during the early stages of this round of negotiations."

Bargaining has been adjourned for the summer and will resume Sept. 20-24.
