Supporters can send a letter to Tim Houston, Nova Scotia Premier, Becky Druhan, Minister of Education, opposition parties and their MLA to tell them to end the strike and get back to the table to negotiate a fair deal.
Halifax (25 Oct. 2022) — More than 130 members of Local 70 of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees' Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) went on strike today. They are school support workers at the South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE), They're jobs range from early childhood educators, outreach workers, student support workers, office administration assistants, clerks, receptionist/clerks, purchasing clerks, accounting clerks, payroll clerks, and transportation clerks, to IT support specialists.
These NSGEU/NUPGE members join their colleagues at the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education who went on strike on Oct 24. The main reason behind both strikes is wage parity.
Wage parity at the heart of impasse
School support workers are asking for something simple: fairness. All they are asking for is for people doing the same work to get paid the same, no matter what area of the province they live or work in.
NSGEU/NUPGE need people to support for school support workers. We all know that without them, schools and classrooms just can’t work.
