Halifax (15 Jan. 2013) — Members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) who work as support staff at St. Francis Xavier University will be entering conciliation talks with the strength of an 87 per cent vote in favour of a strike to back their bargaining demands.
Conciliation dates have been scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2013.
“The members have given their bargaining committee a strong mandate as they enter the conciliation process with the employer,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President. “We expect that conciliation will be a very intense forty-eight hour period of time where there will be a great deal of pressure to reach a fair agreement that the membership will accept.”
Job classifications and wages remain two of the most significant outstanding issues to be resolved.
There are approximately 140 members of the local who provide administrative, clerical, technical, and library services for the univeristy.
