NSGEU members at Saint-Anne University ratify agreement

Improvements to collective agreement approved by the membership.

Halifax (07 March 2013) – Members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) employed as support staff at Université Sainte- Anne have voted strongly in favour of their tentative agreement today.

“Congratulations to the bargaining committee and chief negotiator, Tina Webber, who worked hard to reach this agreement with the employer,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President.

The vote was 97 per cent in favour of the tentative agreement.

Highlights of the agreement include wage increases of 1.75 per cent retroactive to July 1, 2012, 1.5 per cent beginning on July 1, 2013, and two per cent on July 1, 2014; a decrease in pension contributions from 10.5 per cent to 8.5 per cent effective January 1, 2013 with an agreement to review by January 1, 2014; a slight increase in severance pay; and a range of other language improvements.

There are approximately 55 members of the bargaining unit employed as carpenters, electricians, library staff, administrative staff and coordinators, among others.
