Important strike votes this week to support negotiations.
Halifax (21 May 2013) – Talks between the Regional Residential Services Society (RRSS) and members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) reached an impasse on April 12.
Headed for conciliation
NSGEU/NUPGE filed for conciliation on April 15 and will be holding strike votes to support the bargaining priorities as set out by the membership.
Strike votes will be held at the union office:
- Wednesday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Thursday, May 23 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and
- Friday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Strong strike vote supports bargaining priorities
Providing your bargaining committee with a strong strike mandate will help them achieve a fair collective agreement, one that recognizes the important work you do on behalf of the residents.
Employer refuses to remove concessions
As part of negotiations to date, the employer has proposed a reduction in sick leave provisions as well as a lower pay scale for probationary employees. There are also other concessions that affect employees’ rights in regards to probation, job posting, which the employer has refused to take off the table.
