Members of the NSGEU/NUPGE Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Committee met with Hon. Marilyn More, the Minister of Labour and the Environment on April 28, following the National Day of Mourning ceremony held at the Nova Scotia Legislature.
The Committee presented four recommendations to the Minister:
* Move to proclaim the "Indoor Air Quality" legislation, or revise the existing legislation and then proclaim it. This legislation has been sitting on the books for 12 years without action
* Change the current definition of violence to include the key terms of psychological bullying
* Extend and promote the Internal Responsibility System, including training for members of all workplaces’ Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. The Civil Service provides such training for its employees; the government should make it available to all workplaces
* Provide universal WCB coverage for all workers in Nova Scotia
