45 workers on picket lines for past nine weeks trying to win a first contract.
Halifax (10 Dec. 2010) - The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) is calling on members to show their solidarity with 45 members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada) who have been on strike for nine weeks trying to win a first contract at Scotia Recycling in Kentville.
The union has posted a letter on its website to the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour (NSFL) from Mark Dobson, the Atlantic regional director for UFCW Canada.
"I am proud to say the morale remains positive and the membership is strong," Dobson says. "Christmas is, as you know, quickly approaching so any help or assistance you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated."
Dobson is asking all NSFL affiliates to show their support for the striking workers. A copy of his letter can be read at the link below.
