N.S. justice department employees reject contract

NSGEU committed to 'achieving the best possible collective agreement' for more than 450 workers.

Halifax (23 July 2010) - Provincial justice department employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) have voted to reject a tentative offer from their employer.

The employees, members of NSGEU Local 480, turned down the proposed settlement by a vote of 53%. The local includes more than 450 members.

The union's bargaining committee thanked the membership for attending the information sessions and casting your ballots.

"Your Bargaining Committee is dedicated to achieving the best possible collective agreement and will be meeting shortly to determine the next steps to be taken in this round of negotiations," negotiators said in an update.

"The Employer's chief negotiator, Darrell Foley is being informed. The bargaining committee is scheduling a meeting in August to plan our next steps."
