Halifax (24 March 2015) — Nova Scotians are being asked to help protect the province's vital public services. Over the last several months, the government has announced plans to cut several important public services across the province.
Government cuts hitting public services Nova Scotians rely on
In early March, an announcement was made to close visitor information centres in Pictou and Digby and make the other seven provincial parks self-serve. Fifty-eight workers have been laid off as a result of this decision.
These cuts are on top of the layoffs already handed out to 11 child-welfare workers in Guysborough, and in the community of Barrington Passage, in Shelburne County.
Now, the government has announced its intention to privatize three registries within Service Nova Scotia: Nova Scotia Land Registry, Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Registry of Joint Stock Companies.
Join the rally for public services
To highlight the damage these cuts and the privatization of services will have on the public, a rally is being held at the Nova Scotia Legislature on Thursday, March 26 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.
