New Brunswick Liquor reducing hours to cut costs

Premier David Alward has ordered provincial liquor corporation to reduce its budget by 2% in 2011.

Fredericton (4 Jan. 2011) - New Brunswick's Conservative government plans to cut liquor store hours starting on April 1 as a cost-cutting measure.

Details have not been finalized but the New Brunswick Liquor Corp. (NBLC) says most urban stores will open at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.

Premier David Alward has ordered the Crown corporation to cut its budget by 2% in 2011. NBLC oversees all alcohol sales through a network of 118 outlets across the province. It contributes about $150 million in profits annually to the province's public treasury.
