The newest groups in the New Brunswick Union (NBU) have voted to ratify their first collective agreements.
Frederiction (02 June 2017) — Members of New Brunswick Union (NBU/NUPGE) who work at Miramichi Seniors Centre and Mount Saint Joseph voted unanimously in favour of accepting their contract during a vote held on Wednesday.
"This is a great accomplishment for the 2 new groups," said Susie Proulx-Daigle, NBU President. "Sometimes getting the first contract can be difficult, but both sides worked hard and came up with deal that's fair for all."
First collective agreement for professional and supervisory employees at nursing homes in NB
The deal marks the first time professional and supervisory employees in a nursing home in the province have organized and negotiated a collective agreement, something the NBU/NUPGE hopes to see more of in the future.
The workers in the groups represent a diverse cross section of jobs including dieticians, recreation directors, director of finances, administrative staff, directors of nursing, assistant director of nursing, director of plant, director of housekeeping and laundry, human resources, outreach workers and ingredient control.
"These people provide excellent care to the people of Miramichi," said Proulx-Daigle. "They're part of the fabric of the community."
The deal for both groups is for one year.
