Fredericton (14 Oct. 2021) — The Specialized Health Care Professionals (SHCP) Component, represented by the New Brunswick Union (NBU/NUPGE), voted in favour of ratifying a tentative deal reached with the government of New Brunswick. The deal is 5 years in length and covers the time period from April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2024.
The negotiating teams reached the tentative agreement on Sept. 20, 2021. From there, a meeting was held with members to discuss the deal, and a vote was conducted, on Oct. 2, 2021.
New contract more than a year in coming
“Our bargaining team worked extremely hard to get us to this position,” said Susie Proulx-Daigle, NBU President. “I want to thank the team as well as all the members who took the time to study the tentative deal, ask questions and vote.”
The collective bargaining process was halted for about a year as the province dealt with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The SHCP component represents several professionals including
- audiologists
- dieticians/nutritionists
- medical physicists
- occupational therapists
- pharmacists
- physiotherapists
- psychometry assistants
- psychometrists
- psychologists
- recreation therapists
- social workers
- speech language pathologists, and
- clinical psychologists
The SHCP members work in hospitals, the Extra-Mural program and public and mental health clinics across the province.
